how do we intend to achieve our LOFTY goalS?
We have developed a comprehensive model that is not just a canned “curriculum” handed to an agency, school, or corporation, etc. First, we meet with stakeholders to get an understanding of their needs, their goals, and what is it that they want to change within their current circle of influence. We speak with as many stakeholders as we can so that everyone feels that their voice is heard. In essence, this is the beginning of the KLP work, getting to know people and building relationships, thus getting participants to buy-in and get their feedback before we even begin the official work.
Once we get a broad understanding of what we mutually agreed upon, the KLP representative presents a menu of materials and curriculums that we select together. This is to ensure that we are tailoring the program to their specific needs. Choosing materials to match the unique goals and characteristics of their program. Within that menu we focus on four areas that our materials come from, and we mandate for the efficacy of the program that our clients select materials from each area of concentration.
Four areas of concentration:
- Authentic Learning Experiences
A broad array of curriculums designed to serve across age spans to meet the developmental needs of children and adults from PreK – Adulthood. It is critical that everyone in the organization engage in the authentic learning experiences. For example, in a school setting both students and teachers would be provided with materials to utilize and work on, for instance: formal professional development seminars, writing prompts, and a KLP coloring book to name a few. - Environmental Enhancers
Posters, Signs, Pens, Pencils, Letterhead, Buttons, T-shirts, Hats, Flags, Lapel Pins, Wristbands, Banners, Bumper Stickers, etc. that promote KLP verbiage. The philosophy here is that these environmental enhancers serve as reminders/re-enforcers for the climate and culture of the KLP experience within the organization. - Celebration Gatherings
Parents/Participants: A key feature of KLP is celebrating success and thus honoring/modeling that L.O.V.E. for each other through celebrating one another. This could take the form of an employee of the month certificate, the best KLP Character Trophy, weekly staff awards, Annual KLP certificates, monthly student school KLP assemblies, Parent All Stars Awards, etc. - Village Love Initiative
Community Collaboration – The fourth pillar is a little more ambiguous and allows us to take KLP out of the primary agency, school, and client environment and bring it into the broader community. Some examples of this include window placards in local homes and businesses, indicating together that “WE” are a KLP community, a daily KLP announcement calendar distributed to community members to share positive daily KLP affirmations in the home environment developed by the children, lawn signs, etc. A KLP Community Steering Committee will assist in building that bridge in the community through community celebrations such as BBQ’s, Field Day Events, community clean up, etc. Also, visiting Institutions of higher learning, Colleges, Universities, and Technical/Trade schools. KLP can become a city-wide campaign.
In summary, over the past several decades KLP has evolved from an idea to a concrete system of inventions, interventions, and preventions with a proven track record for growth and success. We have partnered with the Woodbury, NJ School District, Bellmawr, NJ School District, Camden, NJ School District, Bridgeton, NJ School District, just to name a few. Community organizations: Planned Parenthood of Southern, NJ., Respond, Inc.- Social Services, Genesis School of Business, Chicago Municipality, Robert Wood Jonhson University, Family Court of Southern NJ, New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission, and a Consultant for Annie Casey Foundation.
